Custom Dreadlock Sets

I have two styles of dreadlocks that I offer. My 'regular' style that you'll see as the cover photos in my shop section for each color that I offer is the first style. It is my original design that I have been making and selling for years and is the default dread when ordering. I have recently designed a new style that I also love so much! This new design is still light, and soft to the touch, but has more texture to add more movement in your dreadlock set! It adds fullness and thickness without adding more weight since I use the same amount of hair for both styles!

This is perfect for you if you want to have more of a natural, lived-in dreadlock look! This style looks relatable to aged human dreads for a soft grunge, organic vibe that I am all here for! Even just adding 15-20 in your set can be a perfect amount to add movement and change the vibes up a little bit!

To add this custom option to your order, be VERY SPECIFIC in your notes! If you are picky about exactly how many you want made in this style. Tell me the total of how many you want in the textured style, what colors, and how many of each color in this style. The more specific, the better!

Consultations

Creating a set from scratch can be completely overwhelming for so many reasons! What length? What colors? How long? Do I want braids? If so, HOW MANY?! I totally understand all of these concerns, and this is an investment for you, and I want to make sure you are at peace with what you order. I especially just want you to know for sure that your vision is coming to life and what you put together will ACTUALLY look good.

I have never done a consultation in my whole career where we didn't completely change their original idea and make it 10X better and custom to them! If you want access to my creative brain, I am more than happy to bring together a BEAUTIFUL design for you so you don't have to question the set you put together. I do know a little bit about dreadlocks (; So if you want a consultation, just message me and we can set that up for you so you can have more confidence in the investment you're about to make in yourself<3 If you're going to do this, don't just do it right, do it the best way that you can!

Measuring for Shorties

Measuring for short dreads can be complicated, so I am going to try and help ease the process for you! If the length you are wanting lands about in the chest area, you will most likely only need to measure for two lengths! One length for the underneath (3 rows) and then another length for the top (3 rows). The regular length will reach the chest area once it is installed on the top of your head. Unless you want to have a really layered look, you will only need to customize the length of the bottom 3 rows (about 18-23 dreadlocks) and then get the remaining 22-27 in the regular length to have all of your dreads reach the same length.

If you are wanting your dreads to be significantly shorter than that, I recommend ordering 3 separate lengths for the 3 areas of your head. Reference Partial Dreadlocks for quantity recommendations on each row. A normal head is 6 rows. For the bottom 2 rows, measure from the bone behind your ear to the length you want them to end at. For the 3rd and 4th row, measure from just below your temple to that same reference spot. For the last 2 rows, measure from your parietal ridge (just above your temples) to that same reference spot.

Color quantities for shorties

If you are ordering multiple lengths, it can be very confusing knowing how many to order of each color in each length you have set up for your set. First thing to do is decide what colors you want and what ratio you want each color to be. If you want 1/2 of your set to be blonde, 1/4 copper, and 1/4 brown, then just follow that same ratio throughout each section. Again, reference Partial Dreadlocks page to know how many dreads per row so you can accurately count how many totals of each length you will be ordering so you have a number to break up in each section.

For example, if you're ordering really short dreads and you'll be ordering 3 lengths for your set, then the bottom 2 rows will be 9-10 dreads for that first length. You'll order half of them blonde, and then split up the other half between copper and brown. That leaves you with 5 blonde, 3 copper, and 2 brown for the bottom length. Decide how many you will be getting for the next 2 rows so you can break up that quantity into the same ratio. Follow this for the top length and you will have the same ratio of colors in each length. After creating your cart, count the total you have in each color to make sure the ratio followed into the set you created.

The key is to decide what you want your base to be and what ratio you want the other colors to be in your set and just duplicate that ratio in each section depending on how many lengths you plan to order.

When in doubt, message me <3

Open ends vs closed ends

An option I offer in my shop is the customization to have open ends on the dreadlocks! This is something you can add as a customization onto the regular style and/or the textured style. The open ends usually add more of a 'real' dreadlock vibe since human hair dreads usually have a couple inches of hair at the bottom undreaded. Keep in mind that they may be straight when you get them and they will remain straight, but it will still dread with time, it will just dread straight, not twisted like the other portion of the dreadlock.

This is something you also have to be very specific about in your note section. How many do you want left straight, how many inches do you want straight, what colors, etc. If you are not picky about anything extremely specific, at least tell me the total number of open ends you want and a direction of how many inches of open ends you'd like!

The copper dreadlocks on display in these photos are examples of my regular style dreadlocks in my shop. Unless otherwise specified, this is the default dread that will be added to your cart in my shop with no customization.

The blonde dreadlocks on display in these photos are examples of the textured style that is available as a customizable option in my shop. In the photo you'll see some of these dreads have closed ends and some have open ends, which are available as a customization to your set. These customized options require specifications in your notes when adding items to your cart.

Extra length

If you want your dreadlocks to be longer than my regular length at about 21" long on each side, there is an option for me to make them longer. It is rare that people ever actually need extra length, so before you order with extra length, message me so we can clarify what it is you are wanting exactly and how we can achieve that. Keep in mind they are 21" long on each side, but when you install them you have the freedom to offset them, making them longer than 21" on your head. This is why a lot of people think they need or want extra length when the regular length is going to be able to meet all of their needs!

That being said, there are situations when ordering extra length will achieve the vision in your head! I have some colors that cap at 24" on each side and some available for me to make longer than that. Depending on the colors and length you choose, it will be an extra $4-$10 per dread for extra length!
